Meet Your Instructors!

Never battled before and you're super duper nervous about it? Lost and confused as to how to train for battles leading up to the big day? Get anxious at battles? Unsure what to do when it's your turn to battle? Trust me, I've been there too.

Participating in battles is a great way to become a better battler. However, if you keep participating in battles without fully understanding how battles work, and train without any proper guidance, you're likely not going to improve as a shuffle battler.

That is why we created the Battle Training Lab. So you can train with guidance, grow intentionally in your dance abilities, and enjoy battles to the fullest with a confident healthy mindset. Training for battles and competing puts you into an athlete's mindset, and holds you accountable to have a consistent training schedule in which you become more intentional with your movement, your feelings, and your thoughts... it inevitably grows your confidence and dance abilities.

Take your time with the course. Growing as a battler is a forever ongoing process. We are so excited for you to embark on this journey to engulf yourself in the battle scene, fall in love with the process of training for battles, and thrive in upcoming shuffle battles.

Remember, you are already a winner for being here!"

"Hey what’s up y’all?! I’m Maressa, but my family and friends call me Mars - Aka Earthtomars on IG if you’re curious! I’m a professional shuffle and gogo dancer based out of Miami, Florida.

I started dancing at 4 years old and competed in difference styles such as ballet, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, and jazz until the age of 21. It wasn’t until 2017 that I learned what shuffling was, and didn’t take it serious (practicing every day) until 2020… Yes, you guessed it! I am a quarantine born shuffler!! Coming from a studio setting, I was never taught to freestyle and what a pleasure it’s been to create since then.

Shuffling has truly changed my life for the better. It’s healed me, and is one of the best forms of expression I have. I’ve been able to accomplish many goals in my life through shuffling like performing for the top music festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Dreamstate SoCal, iii Points, and Seismic. I’ve entered battles all over the US, winning 2 (so far). I even teach shuffle classes as well!

This dance has given so much to me, and I can only hope to do the same in return for the culture!"

"Hey everyone Mizu here! My shuffle journey began back in 2008/2009 when a friend told me about it at school. I looked it up and saw Moonboy and Francis and immediately wanted to move like them. I started getting into Hardstyle Melbourne Shuffling, which is actually how I lost my first 10 lbs! I worked on this style until the shuffling boom that came in 2010/2011. At this point, a new style started taking over the California scene, and that style ended up being called Calistyle. I practiced these two styles exclusively for a couple years. In 2021,I wanted to learn proper Malaysian style, so I set out and did just that. After being comfortable with my MAS, I started blending these three shuffling styles, and this ended up forming the foundation of my very own individual style. With a solid lower body foundation, I was able to focus on learning to incorporate my upper body more. I started watching and experimenting with dance styles outside of shuffling, such as krump, popping, animation, hip hop, waving, and house. Since then, I’ve just been working on making my dance as versatile and well-rounded as possible.

I’ve participated in the following battles: World Shuffle Community Online Shuffle Cup 2021, Classic Movement’s Tombs 2021, FTS Online Tournament 2021, Local Raw Session Tournaments, FTS Battlegrounds 2022, and Nameless Shufflers NY Battle Tournament 2022.

I have judged the Mile High Shufflers Kill Off 2022 Battle Tournament, as well as the 2023 FTS Shufflecon Tournament."

Hi friends it’s me, Doni! It’s hard to mark the beginning of my shuffle journey because I’ve been a dancer all my life. I was 16 when I discovered shuffling, and I was already familiar with some of the footwork because the fundamentals that are rooted in styles I’m familiar with like hiphop, tap, and contemporary. I adopted shuffling into my freestyle and it quickly became a personal favorite because of the emotional release it facilitated. For many years it was a “fun little hobby that keeps me from losing my grip on reality” but due to the lack of popularity and being constantly told that “there’s no future in shuffling” it remained just that, a hobby. Then in 2019 I discovered a competition in Barcelona that was an international open invite. In the spirit of adventure I decided to participate, and in doing so I discovered a whole world of shufflers. In that moment I realized that what I thought was an unrecognized hobby was actually a worldwide phenomenon. I learned that there are people who work to bring shufflers together and build communities of shufflers to support each other in our shared passion. I placed Top 16 out of over a hundred competitors and I knew from then on that my hobby had become a lifestyle. I spent the next year dedicated to training for the next competition in 2020 that never happened due to the pandemic. I was crushed at first, but then I was invited to perform at ShuffleWisdome, which sparked the chain of events that led to my journey to the Quarter Finals of Americas Got Talent with Shuffolution. During my time with Shuffolution I developed an immense understanding of the work required to become a career dancer, but having nothing to fall back on other than barista and dishwashing I chose to double down on doing what I love. The skill and knowledge I gained from my team of friends in Shuffolution led me to finding more and more success within my dance career. Since AGT I’ve had the blessed opportunities to perform at the Atlantis Casino Resort in the Bahamas, Tour the Caribbean and the Mediterranean on board the Valiant Lady performing for Virgin Voyages, participate in over 7 competitions across America, and I’m currently an On-Call at the Luxor in AGT’s Superstar show! Thank you for hearing my story, if there is one thing I want you to take away from this it’s this: Dancing is an inherent trait of our human nature, it’s a part of our being, our connection to the universe, dancing is a way to find strength in the hardest of times, and peace in the darkest of times."
